Major Catching Up

So yeah...haven't written in a while...

A lot of time has passed since my last post. But really nothing's happened.

I didn't go to any barrel races over the summer, because Mom's horse Joe went severely lame with an abcess that didn't heal until after Fancy and I had returned to school.

Then after weeks of intense training for the one barrel race that popped up in a reasonable area, Ms. Wilson hauled Fancy and a couple of other horses out to Etowah. But to our misfortune, it started raining intensely, and we decided to leave. After all, why would any of us pay money to do the same stuff we'd been doing at school when there was no competition?

But now it's the Winter Season of Equestrian. And today, we set up barrels in the ring for our lesson. Still there is no one else at the barn who is serious about barrel racing like I am, but that's okay. It is to be expected, after all. But I got to run Fancy at top speed at the end of the lesson, which is all that really matters to me. In fact, we ran so hard my clip-on cell phone holder came right off the saddle. Fancy's gotten so much faster, and we're turning so much better than we ever have. My only problem now exists on the final barrel. When Fancy comes around it, I'm not setting her head straight fast enough for the run home. But that is something that can easily be fixed.

As usual, I'm hoping for another barrel race to pop up, but that's highly unlikely out in NC. But ya know something? I'm okay with that. I'm just glad to see Fancy looking so beautiful, though she always is. But I may never get her to look better than she does now. She's fattened up nicely, and her muscles are as toned as they were in her younger days. She's a serious competition horse now.

Let's see...other changes...Fancy has a new bridle and new bit now. The new bit is much lighter, but it yields a much better response. Fancy has been relaxing a lot more with it in.

Next time I write, I'll talk about the new people down at the barn this year.
